The bulk of the terms and etiquette for kobudo training are identical to those used in karate, so the information on the karate etiquette page is equally applicable here. One addition is that weapons are always to be treated with respect in the dojo. They are to be kept clean and in good condition (see Care for Buki on the weapons page.) Your weapons are cleaned and put away before you finish training, and when listening or sitting, the weapon is placed on the ground in front of or next to you and is never stepped over. Weapons

There are a number of variations for the names of some of the weapons. For example, tonfa are also called tuifa. We use the term listed, but depending on the Okinawan teacher, other terms may be used.

Kata
Many of the kobudo kata are named after the person who created them or the place they are from, so for instance Sakugawa no kon is Sakugawa’s bo kata, and Tsuken Akachu no Eku is the Eku kata of a man nicknamed Akachu (red man) from Tsuken village.
